Architecturally, Bikuben Kollegiet is based on a rotational principle where the habitation sections seem to be twisting their way around the communal areas, up through the building. The building rests on a central base, which leaves room for a colonnade facing the street. On the whole, the building appears like a cube, but its pronounced boxiness is broken in several places by open ‘gaps’ that create room for indoor and outdoor communal areas.
